Politico.com is reporting Gov. George Pataki [1] will not enter the Republican primary. When there was buzz that the former chief executive of New York was pondering a run, I sort of laughed. As we pointed out, he has got a decent record on gay rights [2]. Politico also nodded to his pro-abortion and environment stances. While these might work in New York, they will not fly in this year's primary. [3] From Rep. Michele Bachmann's [4] virulent homophobic past to Sen. Rick Santorum [5] trying to explain how marriage is not napkins, whoever gets the GOP nomination must, at the bare minimum, mouth NOM's rhetoric. And be as far right as possible on all the other issues (even evolution). Also Pataki is wobbly on fiscal matters. Sure he's Republican, but his record on spending doesn't match what the Tea Party folk are looking for. And they too must be bowed down to in this primary. Hate to bust the bubble of anyone who actually thought the ex-governor would give it a go. If he were foolish enough to do it, he wouldn't have survived long.
